So after the whole my bike and my ass VS a Toyota van last week I’ve been a little bike depressed. I’ve been preparing my commuter the night before for duty and yet in the morning I find some excuse to drive. I rode with Don on Sunday, and that was fun but I’m still a little spooked.  Tommorrow I have no excuses not to ride to work.

Last night Sarah’s cousin Steven came over with his ancient mountain bike. He is moving to San Luis Obispo in a few weeks to start at Cal Poly. Lucky Kid!

So… I adjusted his shifting and replaced his cracked and broken rear dérailleur pulley wheels.  I also replaced his front dérailleur cable. The bike still needs some work but we ran out of time last night. Its light-years better than how he brought it to me.

It feels good to help out a younger person who cant afford to take his heap of a bike to the bike shop just to be told that they really cant help him. They cant help him because they dont hang onto old parts anymore. I have a box on my patio full of old bike parts.

The pulleys I used to replace his came from Don’s Miyata fixed gear conversion. We removed the old 10 speed parts and I threw them in the box. Guess what, they came in handy!

No pictures sorry, it was a greasy mess anyway. Everyone already knows what that looks like.
