So here is my commuter 1.0 after this weekend hopefully it will be revamped into commuter 2.0. You may be wondering what all those colorful squares are, well let me explain each one has a key use for commuting.
The yellow squares mark safety equipment, in this situation they are my led headlight and taillight. The lights are used in hopes that there blinking will annoy cars enough to cause them not to hit me
.
Then comes the blue square what is that trying to show us…..a bell, what does a bell do, you ask? It alerts those pesky pedestrians that you are approaching them and they need to get their ass out of my way. Also its great to just ring it like crazy at bike hop.
Now comes the green square, that is our handy bag of goodies. It holds extra tube, CO2, tire wrench, multi tool, patch kit, and on some occasions a tasty treat.
Finally comes those imposing red squares. What else could one need? Your first thought is why do you need a hand pump you have CO2, the answer is to hit that pesky neighbors dog and especially to hit that stupid car that is approaching you in the bike lane. Nothing says HELLO like a good whack from a hand pump. Except a water bottle full of a liquid of some sort. The water bottle is a multi use tool, it is a hydration tool and a projectile to teach people a lesson who decide they have the right to run you off the road.
I hope you have enjoyed this lesson on commuting tools. Stay tuned for version 2.0
Until then keep on riding

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWe can get you a black rear rack and paint it white! That would be sweet!!!!
Sounds good to me !!
You must live in a dry place, because where I am (Portland, Oregon) fenders are essential, no, critical, for enjoying your ride!
We both have fenders. And we ran them up until two months ago. They will go back on in October.
Hey Paul, is portland really as nice to ride as they say it is?
I’m looking forward to seeing your rear commuter rack and getting one myself. Maybe we can paint it blue to match my bike? After the wedding…
We will get you a little ball and chain to hang from your rack
Thats low Don, really low.
I’m still swearing by my Honka Horn along with the bell. Very effective.
I’m also one of those dorks who wear a rear-view mirror on my glasses. I make my own with beer caps, ane I’m thinking about a limited production run of Bike4More mirrors if you guys are intrerested.
Let me talk to Zak about it, sounds interesting to me.
No locks? I carry a U-bolt and a cable. Also, I park my bike in a firehouse so it can be guarded by four dumb, yet strong firefighters.
Yes, I am paranoid.
I have a lock but its not on the bike, it rides in the bag. I use a U-lock as well.
