After reading todays post on Fatty’s Blog regarding bike noises I was sightly alarmed at my OCD mentality when it comes to bike noises. I am the the first guy, the one who NEEDS absolute mechanical silence. I even diagnose friends and riding partners bikes, mid-ride. I’ve even stopped an innocent bystander with a cross chain front dérailleur rubbing symphony and fixed it right there on the side of the road.

I recently sold my Langster partly due to the agonizing noise the Bottom Bracket made and I was tired of the way the aluminum frame rode. The Bottom Bracket was an FSA Mega Exo that from what I’ve read on the net is kind of a PITA. A similar bottom bracket is installed on my road bike. That bike recently started making ALOT of noise when pedaling. I disassembled the bottom bracket a few times, made some adjustments, the noises would lessen and worsen. I finally asked Google. Google is a pretty good bike mechanic sometimes. Other times Google acts like he knows everything but really knows nothing. I found a few pages about bike noises, read about swapping the wheel skewers and after trying that the noise went away. AMAZING

By the way, the stock IRO bottom bracket on my IRO is super smooth and super quiet.

I took the Major Taylor bars off and replaced them with my old trusty Cinelli drops.
Life is good again.

Don’t stop pedaling
