I decided last week that I wanted to ride to a local race to watch my nephew Brandon. I have recently been in the mood to save as much gas as possible whenever I can. Riding my bike to work, riding to the gym, riding to Hanford, 40 miles away. The drive is boring, fast, dirty freeway. The bike ride is nice, calm dairies and farms. With a few watchdogs along the way.

Don decided that he wanted to go with me also.

We set out at 8am with the intention of riding there in 4 hours. We got there in 3 with some stops and a few mechanicals. Don decided to take a sidewalk nap at Clovis and the 180 freeway when descending a curb:

He clicked his right foot out of the pedal and then did a reverse
moonwalk resulting in his laying on the sidewalk and his head+helmet
laying in the street. He did think to cover his left shifter on the way
down. Good call Don.
The carnage:

Here we are at the beginning of the blossom trail.
It goes east to west we were going south, way south:

We rode through “Laton“, wow thats a small, quiet place:

Here is don riding over the Kings River near Laton-Kingston Park:

Here are the directions I attached to the top tube of my bike.
All those turns in 40 miles:

Then about 35 miles in don’s pedal broke:

And he got pooped on by a bird:

He also got chased by a few dogs, some slow ones and one pretty
fast one.

Anybody else would have quit early but Don stuck with it. He will be
sore today, but the accomplishment of riding 80 miles and the
reward of getting somewhere far and fun by bike was well worth it.

Plus the right lane of Clovis Avenue was closed off for construction
for a few miles which created the best bike lane I’ve ridden in awhile:

So to wrap it up we had a great time, we rode a long way and we
saw some nice farmland.

Pit stop leaving Hanford:

Special thanks to Hanford for the awesome bike race and the terrible water.
