At what point does a distance become to far to ride?
Well for some it may be to the grocery store, while others it is to a neighboring town. But for some their is no such thing as “To Far”. A woman here in Fresno and about thirty other people are going to do a ride from San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL. Just to put that in perspective:

When she told be about this I was blown away, I was happy when I did 50 miles this weekend and she is going to go do thousands of miles. Also the picture I provided you is the quickest way to get their by car that doesn’t mean that is the path they are taking. They will be taking a more scenic route, which should add some miles.
Then I look at a Scottish gentlemen who rode around the world in 195 days and six hours. I don’t know about you but my jaw just dropped, to read the full article Click Here
To think that a bike could carry you that far and to top it all off the guy did it to raise money for different organizations. Rock on Brother
Every week I have a staff meeting and they always ask me how far I went this weekend and of course I give them the mileage and a big smile. To me each additional mile is a huge accomplishment, yeah I could just drive my car. To me though if I go and drive 50 miles who cares I surely don’t, but if I go and ride 50 miles then I care and so do so many other people. People are always amazed when I tell them that I ride a bike for fun and how far I ride it. To a lot of people a bike is seen just as another form of transportation, when it can be so much more. I see them as an inspiration for me and anyone who sees me riding. Each time I ride my bike on long rides it says to me if I can do this then what else can I do, which drives me to try other things in life. Also at the same time it helps me to lose weight, which to me is more valuable then gold. So with each additional mile my smile gets larger and larger.
Also I believe that others can be inspired by bike riders like myself. When people see us all out riding out in the middle of no where, they too pull inspiration out for their lives as well. They may go try something they have been putting off for years or take a trip some where they have been afraid to before. I personally think I can help inspire people into riding bikes as well because I am a rather large guy and I am doing it. It shows that riding a bike is for anyone not only for those that are toothpicks and are in the greatest shape of their lives.
Also I find that no matter if you are a work commuter or a epic rider, everyone in the bike community seems to have a great comradery with each other. If you have a flat they have a spare, a pump, or CO2 to share with you. If you are stopped on the side of the road they ask if everything is okay. When riding past each other their is the howdy, the wave, the hang loose sign, and just a nod.
So is their a distance that is to far to bike I don’t think so, with each additional mile we gain momentum and speed. In each location we find ourselves we find help and support. So the next time you ride go that extra mile, take the long way home, or just go out of your way to ride places people would normally just drive to.
Keep on riding ![]()
