So, a new author! I’ve been in the wings quite awhile and, being a newbie, I look forward to expressing what I learn and my experiences bike commuting in the hope it encourages and helps others.

Being that this site is called BIKE4MORE, I thought it relevant to express why I have started riding my bike to work and to give you an idea of what I might be posting. For the most part, I have three reasons:

  • I am getting married in a few months and I want to be in shape
  • I feel incredibly unhealthy (no longer active, sit behind a desk, and recently gained 8 pounds)
  • My stress and frustration from work follows me home

So, who am I? My name is Michael and I’ve known Zak and Don for a few years now. I am a bike convert in large part because of Zak. Zak inspired Don to ride to work and, seeing Don ride to work, was the final motivation that got me on my Trek and riding to work.

My goal, starting off, is to ride at least 30 miles a week (this is very low, I know, and to be honest, I have many work days with meetings that I can’t be sweaty/disgusting so I have to drive some). Last week, my first week of riding, I did 55 miles (I know, I know, this is nothing)! This week, on the other hand, has not been quite as successful so I am really going to push myself this weekend to make up for it.

The results so far? Last week my fiance immediately noticed my increase in energy and general happiness. It was great! This week, with the lack of riding, has been a reminder of how important it is that I ride my bike to work.

Hope to see you on the road,

Michael
