Don and I decided to ride on Saturday out to a famous spot otherwise known as “Millerton” its a 30 mile round trip ride that I usually reserve for short training rides.
We decided that fixed gear bikes were appropriate for the rise and set off. Rain was in the forecast but we soldiered on. It didn’t rain but the wind was horrible. At one point I was in the drops standing out of the saddle to maintain 14 mph. Wow. Then on the way home we climbed the hill that is referred to as “Willow”. I use it to measure fitness in myself because it is short and at the 20 mile turnaround point on a shorter ride route. The location provides enough distance from my house to be sufficiently warmed up and the hill while not remotely difficult is just long enough and easy enough to monitor my gear choice to measure climbing ability and fitness/power ratios. Very scientific I know.
Long story short I climbed it and waited at the top for Don. When I stopped and looked back down the hill I saw a roadie with 27+ gears catch up to Don at the bas e of the hill and then get dropped by Don on his fixed gear. It was glorious. At the top the roadie passed us on the flats and asked me is I was having a great day “Kickin’ everyone’s ass?” I said yeah just out enjoying some fixed gear on the road. Good day indeed.

I made a special mix of hammer energy drink and Gatorade
for Don and I. He drank all of his I saved mine in case he needed it.

On Sunday we decided to ride a different route and I had the intention of going up higher into the hills. I took my road bike with 30 speeds! and decided at the 10 mile mark to turn around due to the storm looming in the hills. There are some fast descents up there that would be no fun in the rain and the horrible wind.

Check out my upside down Colorado flag on my helmet!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThose were some great rides thats all I can say I enjoyed myself, but I cursed the wind the whole way…I think I even shook my fist at it at one point.
That third picture is a picture of Zak I took just before I dropped his camera ouch sorry again
felt bad about that I was in mid sentence when I hit a hole and there went the camera. I knew I should have used the safety strap….I don’t know if it even had one but if it did I should have used it.
It didn’t have one. Danger was that camera’s middle name.
When I look at these pictures its crazy its like fire and ice. You are in Red and Black. I am in Blue and Black. Feels like that Double Dragon game
Lemond used to say that training wasn’t about quantity, but quality, and wind adds a lot of “quality”. So don’t worry about hammering at 14mph, it’s good for ya, Enjoy the wind!
My question is, do they have a limit as to the number of bikes that you can move into colorado? And so they make spiked tires in all of the needed sizes?
There is no legal limit to the number of bikes you can move into Colorado. Due to the fact that Colorado is the Bike Mecca of the midwest.
Spiked tires are not always the best option.
Four Wheel Drive is the best option.
