I almost got right hooked by an old lady in a Big Ford Sedan at Alluvial and Millbrook. There is no discernible bike lane there so because I was exercising my right to ride my bike in the street she decided that my rights were second to wherever she was going. I was able to thud the back of my hand on her rear seat window alerting her to her right turn signal + me being in the same place at the same time. She slammed on her brakes and honked at me while I rode by. I do not encourage battling cars in this way at all kiddies. Eventually you will lose.

In the potential right hook situation I usually slow enough to ride next to and then gently in front of a slower car momentarily blocking their path and alerting them to my presence to prevent them from overtaking me and then turning right as if they were Colin MCrae in a World Rally in Switzerland.

On my way home today I will take some photos of the “Ghosts of Bike-Lanes” that I encounter on my commute. They are old remnants of bike lanes, faded but still visible that are now absorbed into a larger double lane in the interest of traffic flow. Boooo
