Remember when i was going way to fast near that tunnel and crashed while avoiding that group of people taking up the whole path coming the other way? My scars and old ultegra shifters remember….

One strange thing I’ve found is that some of those roads show a bike lane for a while and then a “Bike Route.” Some of those places are the worst to ride, but they put up a sign that says bike route because it might eventually connect to another bike lane. Often, a nearby parallel road might actually be much better to ride even though it doesn’t look as good on that map (because it is a wide road with little traffic, although no striped bike lane). But at least the map is a good place to start.
