A great question is it not, what really makes a person a great bike buddy.

  • Well for me it is someone who can see that their partner is struggling to keep up and pulls the reigns back some to encourage and support their ride buddy.
  • When you have a flat they are right their with one of their spare tubes.
  • When your handlebars fall off they turn around to help you re-attach them. (Yes this has happened to me :) almost twice)
  • When you want to make a fixed gear they are right their excited as you and do the conversion for you.
  • When you run out of water and are dieing of thirst they hand you their bottle.
  • Finally when you are to tired to go on but still need to make it to your home they ride out of their way to make sure you get home safe before heading back to their home.

I said all that to give props to all those great Bike Buddies out their but more importantly my bud Zak. Last night we were riding fixed gears for fun and exercise and I simply was just out of steam. My hands, arms, and legs were numb and like noodles. My house is about 3 miles past Zak’s but it didn’t matter to him he stayed right there with me the whole way home to make sure I got there encouraging me the whole way. So I raise a water bottle to Zak and all those great Bike Buddies out there. So keep on riding.
